The Chandelier

"The Chandelier"

Veneza | 2015
Wood, luminescente glass.

Navarro┬┤s artwork is based on an almost redundant and tautological system: the chandelier is used as a symbolic representation of the discussion of the subject of light.

The chandelier is painted and hung on the wall, as opposed to a crystal or glass chandelier suspended from the ceiling as the viewer expects to see it. However, upon closer inspection the work is painted with glass, using crystalline filaments and not traditional paint. The glass threads are spread over the wooden canvas and are coloured in the darkness revealing the inconsistent aspect of light. Therefore the nature of light is distorted as the chandelier is deprived of its function.
